First Concepts

The first sketch figure is a more subtle approach to the Harley brand culture, it consist of old school material influences such as chrome and brushed aluminium. It resembles a 40’s radio box with the Harley twist of finishes.

The second concept was inspired by a play of shapes and relativity to exhaust pipes of a bike. The strong drop of the body between the cylinder gives it a lower stance like a sports bike, the cylindrical shape of the audio port was introduce as a new audio acoustic system concept that is define by the pipe like uni-body that stores the air amount needed for effective bass reflex

The third concept is based on using an internal frame structure that houses the Mp3 tech pack in a gas tank like body. Materials such as aluminium and mesh is used to show a premium based product.

I choose to bland two concepts (2nd and 3rd) together to form a new concept for my product, I kept the cylinder housing concept and incorporate the idea of a body frame to define or play a structural role to my design, attributes such as the gas cover is brought around all the sketches and console body like the ones that sits on top of a motorbikes tank.

CAD Iterations

The first Cad iteration show how the cylinder chamber body will blend in with the frame. A speaker cover that resembles a gasket cover helps define the audio tech pack.  The sketch help push forward the development of the product but hasn’t shown details of Harley like aesthetic concept.

The development now focuses on the frame development that will house the tech pack. Many sketches were done before a suitable idea was adopted from the idea development. A plate like frame will contain the cylinder profile while being supported by beam like poles that surround the diameter of the cylindrical body. This was the starter for the frame development. The frame cad sketch helps shed light to the product housing strategy and how the product might come together as a unibody structure. A cylinder body is now split to accommodate one audio drive each. The plate frame is seen as a flat press part that seem logical at this stage of the development.

A mock tech body surface is added onto the frame to give a visual idea on the product aesthetics standing, the surface spans from one cylinder profile to the next with a swooping body volume climbing upwards like a gas tank, this help the concept development further develop more detail dimensioning.
The support pole is now thickened to give better visual appeal as oppose to the skinnier cylinder extrude of the last iteration. Many visual cues were implemented to try out Harley influence on the body frame.

The image above shows a further iterated of the cad development, a tech pack housing’ tub’ is fasten between the frames by Hex bolts, it consist of the battery housing and power board.
